If we spend time with God we are filled with his light. That light spreads to the dark corners of our souls. Hidden areas will be exposed to God’s light. We will be obliged to choose between darkness and light. Do we believe the light and allow God’s truth to hold sway in our lives, or do we cling to the darkness of illicit pleasures?
“Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness. Luke 11:34
The eye receives light whereas a lamp gives light. Jesus says the eye illuminates the inner person. It is a lamp that shines within.
What we choose to look at shines into our souls. If I choose to focus on what is godly I will be filled with light. If I focus away from God my soul will be filled with what is not God and become corrupted.
Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” Luke 11:35-36
As we receive that which is absent of God we will become darkness, and the influence we have on those around us will be towards darkness. Our greatest service to others comes through spending time with God so that He is the source of our influence.
