Walking with the God who knows us

Hidden Meaning

If I know what a passage is saying, why does the Lord encourage me to open my ears?

O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying,

Psalm78 v 1

This is not merely a posture like a pupil in class. It is listening to God. I can read a text and think, “Yes I know that.” It is only when I go back to my Lord in humility and ask him to explain it that he opens my ears.

… for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past— stories we have heard and known, stories our ancestors handed down to us.

Psalm 78v2-3

I may have some wisdom but spiritual insight needs the Lord. The Lord says he is going to teach hidden lessons but the rest of the psalm tells familiar stories of Israel’s past. So, how were they hidden?

Am I willing to go to God and ask him what this familiar passage means? Am I willing to accept that he might have hidden something that will be revealed only through prayer?

Just today someone made an observation that answered a question I had prayed about a couple of months ago.
