Testimony

We have a need for testimony to back up what we say. For example, many people invoke the testimony of “Everyone” to give weight to what they say. The need is appropriate. Jesus said,

“If I were to testify on my own behalf, my testimony would not be valid.”

John 5v31

Jesus the divine word needed testimony beyond himself. I am challenged in my willingness to put forward my opinions without supporting testimony.

“You sent investigators to listen to John the Baptist, and his testimony about me was true.”

John 5v33

Jesus entrusted himself to John’s testimony. The Son of God in the hands of a gifted sinner. Indeed, through the millennia he has entrusted his reputation to sinful people like me.

I have a greater witness than John—my teachings and my miracles. The Father gave me these works to accomplish, and they prove that he sent me.

John 6v36

The Father is the ultimate testimony willing to back up the truth in what we say.

So, I am left to ask the question, when I have thoughts that are not backed up by human testimony, how do I wait for the Lord to affirm them? What does it mean to wait for or look for the Lord’s testimony?
