We live in a generation that is proud to be free. But, are we free.
Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8v31-32
Jesus values our faithfulness or loyalty to him. As I am loyal to him he trusts me enough to share himself with me. I enter into a deeper relationship with the person who is the truth.
they said. “We have never been slaves to anyone. What do you mean, ‘You will be set free’?”
John 8v33
As Jesus trusts me he also reveals himself as the way and the life. It is as I try to live his way and life that I am confronted by my slavery.
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.
John 8v34
His leading as the way exposes how I am enslaved by fear, ambition, conceit, addiction, … for these chain me up into my little life. As I entrust myself to The Way, he forces the issues of my slavery and together we break free.
if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.
John 8v36
What chains are holding you back from the way he is leading you into? Can you trust him enough to break you free?
