When overcome by troubles can I recognise Jesus?
Who is this who comes from Edom, from the city of Bozrah, with his clothing stained red? … It is I, the Lord, who has the power to save!”
Isaiah 63v1
The Lord seems to come from the wrong place. I expect him from Jerusalem, but he comes from enemy territory. I expect him to come in purity, but he comes with clothes stained red from crushing his enemies. Do I recognise him?
“I have been treading the winepress alone … In my anger I have trampled my enemies as if they were grapes … Their blood has stained my clothes.”
Isaiah 63v3
We are not to take revenge so Jesus tramples his foes and takes the stain himself. The cost of revenge to our souls is too much. Jesus paid the price for our salvation and is willing to pay for our remaining holy in him. He takes the stain of vengeance and messes up his own pure and majestic robes.
There are principles from Jesus’ second coming for our days. Jesus may come in a strange way from an unexpected place. His love and patience for those I consider enemies may be greater than I have patience for. Am I willing to wait for him to act?
