Walking with the God who knows us

Loyalty and God

What is loyalty to God?

He said, “They are my very own people. Surely they will not betray me again.” And he became their Savior.

Isaiah 63v8

I think of failure as sin. Here, the Lord is concerned about loyalty. The 10 Commandments could be summarised as loyalty to God and treating others consistently.

Am I focused on Jesus or turning my back on him. It was in turning to Jesus through repentance that I entered a covenant relationship with him that expects loyalty.

In all their suffering he also suffered,

Isaiah 63v9

Jesus’ loyalty goes beyond a contract to a commitment of love. When I suffer, he suffers. I too experienced this when our children suffered.

and he personally rescued them.

Isaiah 63v9

The Lord does not allow events to take their course. He personally intervenes to rescue.

But they rebelled against him and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he became their enemy and fought against them.

Isaiah 63v10

In his commitment to me, he will break up what I have abandoned him for. He knows my weakness and helps me to my senses.

Then they remembered those days of old .. They cried out …

Isaiah 63v11

Every day, I see situations where I need God. On a good day I ask help before I start. Other times I suffer frustration before I remember. Maybe the worst are when I never remember!

As with cattle going down into a peaceful valley, the Spirit of the Lord gave them rest.

Isaiah 63v14

The Lord sees my return to loyalty and our relationship is turned to peace. Suddenly all is well because he has the situation. Am I like this to others?
