Walking with the God who knows us

Mess!

Our world is a mess. Why?

“I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness.”

Jeremiah 2v2

Centuries ago there seemed a heart to love God.

“What did your ancestors find wrong with me that led them to stray so far from me? They worshiped worthless idols,

Jeremiah 2v5

First love gave way to idols. We think we hold be the solution by what we do. Even in our spirituality we focus on programmes. We become the idol!

They did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord who brought us safely out of Egypt and led us through the barren wilderness.

Jeremiah 2v6

In a culture that speaks but does not listen, we have lost the ability to wait for the Lord. I can be so full of answers that I fill silence with my solutions.

“you defiled my land and corrupted the possession I had promised you.

Jeremiah 2v7

We have corrupted and defiled what the Lord entrusted. Working with human nature – We made greed the defining force for growth. We made envy the driving force for development. We made arrogance the basis of dealing with others.

We worship worthless idols only to become worthless ourselves.

Jeremiah 2v5

When we lift ourselves as the answer, no wonder we become worthless.

Jesus is big enough. Can I let go of the problems that drive me? He said,

“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Matthew 6v33
