Sometimes Jesus unsettles us.
After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee preaching the Message of God: “Time’s up! God’s kingdom is here. Change your life and believe the Message.” Mark 1v14-15
We have heard this message many times and quietly ignore it because we already believe. But what if that message is for us?
Passing along the beach of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew net-fishing. Fishing was their regular work. Mark 1v16
Jesus had met Simon and Andrew following his baptism in John 1. They joined him then, though they were John’s disciples. Now John has been arrested and they have gone fishing. There is something about physical outdoor work that gives space for processing life.
Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” Mark 1v17
Jesus goes to meet them in their disappointment. He does not leave them there. He encourages them on to a new vision of himself!
“Time’s up! God’s kingdom is here. Change your life and believe the Message.” Mark 1v15
Jesus calls them to new discoveries. Are they willing to leave what they thought they knew and give Jesus the freedom to take them along unfamiliar paths? How will Jesus reveal himself when they follow him for himself?
Are you willing to say yes to Jesus’ adventure?
