There are situations that leave us certain we will be consumed. We have a balance of resources, those available must be greater than those required, if not we will falter. Yet in this we forget God. We forget that the Lord’s great love stretches beyond the obvious circumstances.
Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3: 22-23
The feeding of the 5,000 was an obvious example of this. Five loaves and two fish were obviously not up to the task, yet with God it was done. Another example is the sign given to Moses.
There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, ‘I will go over and see this strange sight – why the bush does not burn up.’ (Exodus 3:2-3 NIV)
This can be a picture of allowing God to direct us in our life situations. The spiritual fire burns, but we are not burnt up. If it is God who calls rather than our unsustainable zeal then we can go with confidence down the path indicated.
We cannot anticipate how the Lord will keep us from being consumed, it may be anticipated events being cancelled, it may be others offering to share the load, … I find a great challenge is to not man up in independence but accept the salvation offered.
