Walking with the God who knows us

Eternal Word

People ask, how can the Bible, written thousands of years ago, still be true today? The question shows the poverty of our understanding of God and his word.

Your eternal word, O Lord, stands firm in heaven.

Psalm 119v89

The body of writings produced by humanity is an evolving body developing in line with culture.

God’s word reflects his unchanging nature. Though expressed through humanity, that eternal link to the divine shines out. John develops this,

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1v1

We cannot comprehend the Lord projecting his living word through limited people. Our view of God is too small.

Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.

Psalm 119v91

God develops everything towards his eternal ends. His word is like the DNA around which everything develops. He does not approve of all we do, but weaves his purposes through our weaknesses.

I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life.

Psalm 119v93

This DNA is injected into our lives through God’s Word. It is the life giving source through which we live and through which his purposes are furthered.

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

John 1v4-5

For those in darkness to shut out the light they would have to destroy the bases of their own existence.
