This verse seems to demand action.
“Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you.
Isaiah 60v1
On a closer look the verse brings a number of influences that must occur at the same time. The Lord initiates and must be heard by his people. Then there needs to be a willingness to actually arise.
When I have arisen it never seemed to ‘work’. I had never noticed the second half. It does not describe a steady state light but a transition. I can arise all I like, but if the Lord does not lift up his light to shine at that time his intended effect will not occur.
When will the Lord make his light arise?
Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you.
Isaiah 60v2
The Lord awaits a time of darkness.
At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.
Isaiah 60v22
In my impatience, I want the Lord to shine now. He awaits an optimum time.
Will I discern the time? I have to trust him for his leading. He has moved us in the past when the time was right. He can do it again.
