Walking with the God who knows us

Problem of Guilt

The guilty try to destroy us!

King Herod … said, “This has to be John the Baptizer come back from the dead … I cut off his head, and now he’s back, alive.”

Mark 6v14-16 Message

Herod’s guilty conscience consumes him. Everything is filtered through it!

Herod … had ordered the arrest of John … and sent him to prison at the nagging of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.  For John had provoked Herod by naming his relationship with Herodias “adultery.”

 Mark 6v17-18 Message

John had outed Herod’s adultery so Herod imprisoned him to silence him and gain peace.

Herodias, smoldering with hate, wanted to kill him.

Mark 6v19 Message

Guilty consciences cannot stand the messenger. First the conscience wants the message silenced. When that does not silence their conscience they want to be rid of them.

Whenever (Herod) listened to him he was miserable with guilt—and yet he couldn’t stay away. Something in John kept pulling him back.

Mark 6v20 Message

However guilty the message makes me feel, the fact is that I am drawn to the message because my deepest soul knows it is life.

Herod was manipulated into killing John, but that did not save his conscience. Peace only comes through reconciliation with God.

Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

2 Corinthians 7:10 NIV

The secular movement silences God’s message but the guilt remains. The next step will be to eradicate the messengers. That won’t work either. Peace comes only through reconciliation with God.
