Walking with the God who knows us

Facing Hostility

How do I respond in the face of hostility …

I’ve already run for dear life straight to the arms of God.

Psalm 11v1

What a joy to enter that relationship with someone who loves unconditionally. But then hostility comes and seeks to separate us …

would I run away now when you say, “Run to the mountains; the evil bows are bent, the wicked arrows Aimed to shoot under cover of darkness at every heart open to God.

Psalm 11v1-2

Circumstances suggest a hasty retreat. The threats appear real.

But God hasn’t moved to the mountains; his holy address hasn’t changed.

Psalm 11v4

These pressures ask questions: Who is God to me? Is he worth risking my wellbeing for?

Spiritual armour is not just a prayer it is an attitude to be lived.

Stand firm then with the belt of truth buckled around your waist … and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

Ephesians 6v14-15

The belt is the warrior’s sash of honour (2 Samuel 18v11). Am I willing to wear God’s truth as a belt of honour? It is not a projection of forcefulness but, a statement of who I am in Christ.

A warrior is of no use if that person will not stand ground under fire. Have I discovered Jesus’ peace which enables me to stand with him when threatened.

Do I trust this God I delight in to also be my protection?
