How do I respond to the state of the world?
Sea storms are up, God, Sea storms wild and roaring, Sea storms with thunderous breakers.
Psalm93v3
The sea often represents the turmoil of the nations. In our day, the turmoil is great. There is an underlying fear and uncertainty, where will this end up?
God is King, robed and ruling, God is robed and surging with strength.
Psalm93v1
This is easy theology but, is it what I see going on in the world?
Stronger than wild sea storms, Mightier than sea-storm breakers, Mighty God rules from High Heaven.
Psalm93v4
Am I willing to be at peace, confident that the Lord has the nations in hand? I will not be saved by clever politicians or the outcome of battles and protests but by the King who rules. So, can I set aside the news?
When suggested it would be trivial for the Lord to resolve issues such as climate change or wars I can find myself incredulous. I am caught off guard, so focused on intractable issues that I forget the power and grace of God.
“Beauty” and “Holy” mark your palace rule, God, to the very end of time.
Psalm93v5
The current turmoil looks anything but beautiful. Yet, when I step back, I see a world in rebellion and the Lord allowing us to experience the consequences. I can watch this beauty, confident that he holds me.
When I surrender to his rule, I can be still before him. From that place I have a freedom to pray into the real issue, the rebellion of a world that despises God.
