Walking with the God who knows us

Fruit of love

How much do I want the fruit of my life to be love? Psalm 1 shows us what is involved.

Blessed is the one … whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither – whatever they do prospers.

Psalm 1v2-3

If I want my life to yield Jesus’ love then I delight in the Lord and focus my thoughts on him and his word.

There are of course alternatives. So,

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked.

Psalm 1v1

When I tangle with wicked people either for or against them, I become a wicked schemer myself. Love is not achieved through the manipulations of the wicked.

Blessed is the one who does not … stand in the way that sinners take.

Psalm 1v1

I can convince myself that I am doing no harm, but when my moment of weakness comes, I find the slip ups I thought insignificant have derailed love and brought harm.

Blessed is the one who does not .. sit in the company of mockers.

Psalm 1v1

When I am drawn into others’ cynicism I find myself pulling down God’s children rather than loving them.

So, how much do I want the fruit of love in my life?
