There are times God seems to put me on the spot. God can do anything but am I hearing him right? Is this the Lord or my wild imagination?
Jesus called his disciples and told them, “I feel sorry for these people. They have been here with me for three days, … I don’t want to send them away hungry.”
Matthew 15 v32
The disciples ask for a reality check. Where will the food come from?
Jesus asked, “How much bread do you have?”
v34
There were more than 4000 people. That would require a cart full. Whatever amount will not be enough. He seems to ask to press them to engage, only then will the enormity hit home.
They replied, “Seven loaves, and a few small fish.”
Nowhere near enough.
So Jesus told all the people to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, thanked God for them, and broke them into pieces. He gave them to the disciples, who distributed the food to the crowd.
v35-36
Jesus sets the people up with an expectation that they would be fed. This is the test of faith. Are the disciples going to intervene to stop an embarrassment? No, they risk their reputation and a miracle happens.
I struggle when a situation requires something that defies common sense yet this is often how the Lord grows my faith.
