Walking with the God who knows us

Grace in failure

I can be so over confident and Jesus, knowing how things will go, so gracious.

Jesus told them, “Tonight all of you will desert me.”

Matthew 26v31

Jesus knowing their limitations prepares them.

Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.”

Matthew 26v33

Like Peter I cannot imagine how challenging things can become.

He told them, “… Stay here and keep watch with me.”

Matthew 26v38

Jesus preparation is not sword practice or debating skills but to keep watch with him.

The best preparation is to be with the Father. Can we keep watch with Jesus?

Then he … found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?

Matthew 26v40

It is easy to run out of steam while watching!

Then he came to the disciples and said, “… look—the time has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Matthew 26v45

When the danger appears there is no time to pray. The Lord warns but I often don’t understand.

After I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.

Matthew 26v32

Jesus has seen this coming and anticipated the disciples failure with grace. Before they needed it he gave them words of hope.
