Walking with the God who knows us

Valuing God

Learning to value God and his word is a process.

I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word.

Psalm 119v67

Understanding the Lord’s discipline helps me to take him seriously. Seeing cause and effect motivates me as I become aware of his involvement in events.

You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.

Psalm 119v68

As events unfold many reflect God’s goodness, though I often don’t understand how. My lack of comprehension shows me I need him to teach me more of his love and righteousness.

Arrogant people smear me with lies … Their hearts are dull … but I delight in your instructions.

Psalm 119v69-70

Sometimes evil is done – a reputation trashed by hard hearted and arrogant people. Faith and courage are developed through choosing to delight in God’s word when wounded.

My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.

Psalm 119v71

This love for the Lord did not just happen, it came through learning to stick with the Lord in suffering.

Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver.

Psalm 119v72

As we depend on God, so his word becomes the most important thing. Not even piles of money would distract from God and his word.
